Paint has a hard life in central South Dakota. Ultraviolet at altitude through the summer, chemical and grit on the roads all winter, and wind that carries abrasive dust across the prairie year round. Refinishing at our auto body shop accounts for that.

Matching a finish the weather has moved

A factory code describes paint as sprayed, not as it looks after several seasons on the Plains. Reds and dark blues shift most, and a clear coat starting to fail changes how the color underneath reads.

We mix from the code, spray a test card, and compare it against the vehicle in daylight before committing. Then color is blended into adjacent panels so the change falls mid-surface rather than at a gap where the eye looks for it.

Preparation and film build

Panels are taken back to a sound surface, bare metal treated, and primer built in stages with blocking between them so the result is flat rather than merely smooth.

Film thickness carries more weight in this climate than most. Too thin and ultraviolet reaches the base sooner. Too heavy and the finish goes brittle and cracks under the swing between a July afternoon and a January night, which out here is a genuinely large number.

Complete repaints

Vehicles reach the point where clear has failed across the roof, hood, and deck while the body remains sound. On a mechanically good pickup, a full repaint is frequently a better decision than replacement.

Clear coat restoration and touch-ups

Where the base survives and only the clear has gone, affected panels can sometimes be stripped and re-cleared instead.
