Detailing at an auto body shop centres on the paint. Most of these hours go into correction and protection, frequently on vehicles just out of our own booth.

Paint correction

Swirls and fine scratches are shallow defects in the clear that scatter light instead of reflecting it. Correction is machine polishing a controlled amount of that clear away until the surface reads flat again.

Clear coat is finite, so thickness gets measured first and the work stops well short of where a panel would need refinishing. On a vehicle that has spent years going through automated washes, the improvement is larger than owners expect.

Ceramic coating

A coating bonds to corrected paint and makes the surface easier to wash and more resistant to chemical etching. It is not armor and it will not stop a stone off a gravel road.

What it does earn its money on out here is winter chemical and the dust that settles on everything through the dry months. Both release far more readily from a coated finish.

Coating goes on after correction, never before. Sealing defects underneath locks them in for the life of the coating.

Headlight restoration

Clouded lenses cut real light output, which matters on unlit highway at night with deer about. We sand and refinish them rather than applying a topical restorer that hazes again in a season.

Interior work

Extraction on carpet and upholstery, leather cleaned and conditioned, and the vents and seams where prairie dust settles and stays.
