Blasting strips a surface back to what is actually underneath. Our auto body shop offers both sand and soda media, and which one you want depends entirely on the job.

Two media, two purposes

Sand cuts. It removes coatings quickly and leaves a profile that primer grips well, which makes it right for heavy structural steel, frames, trailer components, and equipment parts where speed matters and the substrate is thick.

Soda is far gentler. It strips coatings without cutting the metal beneath and will not warp thin panels the way aggressive sand blasting can. It is also water soluble, which makes cleanup practical on assembled vehicles.

Choosing wrongly is expensive. Sand on a thin body panel will heat and distort it, and you buy a new panel rather than a stripped one.

What we blast

Panels and shells being taken to bare metal before a full refinish. Frames and suspension components on project vehicles. Trailer parts and equipment. Wheels. Cast and fabricated parts where old coating has to come off before anything new goes on.

Why strip at all

Painting over old coatings inherits their problems. If the layer underneath is failing, whatever goes on top fails with it on the same schedule, just later and after you have paid for it. Taking a panel to a known surface is the only way to be certain what the new finish is bonded to.

Prepared, then protected

Bare steel does not stay bare for long, particularly through a South Dakota winter. Blasted work gets primed promptly rather than sitting in the corner of the shop.
